They’re common and often regarded as time-honored ways to celebrate summertime but they can end up leaving you with oral health problems! Act with just a bit of caution, however, and you’ll be just fine.
Before you grab a handful of fresh cherries, bite into that watermelon chunk, or pop a few blackberries into your mouth, think about the pits and seeds situation. Are there any hard pits or seeds in there? They can crack a tooth, you know! Or, they can be difficult to remove from your smile. Keep this in mind, so your oral health doesn’t suffer.
Yes, that glass of iced tea, lemonade, iced coffee, etc. is a summer favorite! However, it’s also bad for your oral health. If you choose to make acidic and/or sugary beverages part of your day, make rinsing afterwards with water part of the experience, too!
You might not give much thought to the fact that summertime can seriously get in the way of your usual routine. Even a weekend may include summer BBQs that have you grazing throughout the day instead of eating a few meals. You may be snacking on more sugar than usual (think ice cream cones) or acidic drinks (like lemonade). Make sure you keep up with your brushing and flossing no matter what, so these changes don’t negatively affect your oral health.
